Cathy
Callahan brings over 35 years of tap dancing experience to Broadway Bound
Dance Center. She is a certified dance instructor through Dance Educators
of America. Her new title of 'feature writer' will find her article, Teachers
Teaching Teachers, in the June 2005 edition of the International Tap Association
magazine "On Tap".
Miss Cathy began her tap career at the Joyce Academy of Dance and Theatrical
Arts in Garwood. She extended her studies at various studios across New
Jersey. Cathy has also studied jazz, ballet, and pantomime. She has performed
in community theater with The Overlook Musical Society in Summit and The
New Theatre in Bernardsville concentrating in musical comedies.
While studying in Chester, she and her adult tap colleagues captured first
place in the tap division at the Eastern Performing Arts competition.
She continues her tap education with instructor and tap historian, Kathleen
Cirioli of Hillsborough.
Here in Hunterdon County, Miss Cathy has choreographed competitive solo
and group routines for the past fifteen years and has led many of these
teams to victory. She previously co-choreographed a dance production number
which was performed in Disney and Universal Studios in Florida. Currently,
she manages the studios' tap team, Broadway Rhythms.
An avid volunteer, she is also the studio's coordinator for off-site charitable
performances held at nursing homes in and around the surrounding communities.
A self-pronounced 'technique-freak', she continues to reinforce dance
skills, instilling a solid foundation for toddlers through adults.
